Some more good news from DC!!

In light of Heller, McDonald, and their progeny, there is no longer any basis on which this Court can conclude that the District of Columbia’s total ban on the public carrying of ready-to-use handguns outside the home is constitutional under any level of scrutiny. Therefore, the Court finds that the District of Columbia’s complete ban on the carrying of handguns in public is unconstitutional. Accordingly . . .

the Court grants Plaintiffs’ motion for summary judgment and enjoins Defendants from enforcing the home limitations of D.C. Code § 7-2502.02(a)(4) and enforcing D.C. Code § 22-4504(a) unless and until such time as the District of Columbia adopts a licensing mechanism consistent with constitutional standards enabling people to exercise their Second Amendment right to bear arms.4 Furthermore, this injunction prohibits the District from completely banning the carrying of handguns in public for self-defense by otherwise qualified non-residents based solely on the fact that they are not residents of the District.

For residents that qualify and non-residents.

Just saw this too. You beat me by about 10 minutes.

This also has to have an impact on the Peruta decision too, currently under review in Cali.

I just wonder how many tax $$$ the DC establishment will piss away trying to keep fighting this.

I also heard Philadelphia just agreed to pay $1.4 million in legal fees to the NRA/SAF for their fight to release the names of permit holders publicly.

It's getting way more expensive (for the tax payers) for their city officials to posture on this issue.

Now, cue the usual suspects about the blood in the street in DC and conflating the law abiding with the gang shooters.

Just like he did in Colorado for the now unemployed state senators, Morse and Giron.

Gov. Hickenlooper bought into it hook, line and sinker at first with visions of campaign cash dancing in his head. But now he's taking a good long look at what happened and is very clumsily (see the video of him trying to talk to the state Sheriff's, denying he ever spoke to Bloomberg ... when one of them shows him the phone record of his conversation!) trying to backtrack as much as he can for the November race.

He's nowhere near the numbers he should have for the race. But if he loses it won't be because he pissed off the electorate and drove business and jobs out of the state by listening to Bloomie instead of his voters, it will all be the NRA's and at DU the Gungeon's fault.

But you are 100% correct, the legal fees and any fines come straight out of the taxpayers pocket. I might also add that that is one of the smaller checks Rahm has had to sign in the last 3 years to the NRA, ISRA and SAF, with more to come since he's still dicking around with the court decisions.

Exactly. They seem to think all gun owners are just itching to shoot someone.

If I understand this correctly, Washington DC just became a constitutional carry* city, not just for residents of DC, but for everybody in the country.

I wish I could have seen the faces of the DC lawyers, the Police Chief and the Mayor of DC when they read the ruling.

Just like they are ganging up on the doctor that shot the killer in Philly and the 80 year old that got beat up and shot one of the robbers that assaulted him.

They got nothin'.

carry, or both. It can no longer deny both means. The District can require reasonable and inexpensive testing and b.g. checks that afford equal protection of the law with a shall-issue system.

I wonder, does D.C.'s federal status figure into the court's decision recognizing non-resident RKBA status?
