Kansas City council bans open carry of firearms

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City council members unanimously voted to ban open carry of firearms in the city.

You don't need a permit or training to open carry as you do for concealed carry. Concealed weapons are still legal, but now only law enforcement officers will be allowed to carry a gun so it's seen by others. The law goes into effect on August 10.

Mayor Sly James said open carry may be okay for rural areas, but not for Kansas City.

"In this city where violence is a problem, where woman are battered and beaten where people get drunk and in hassles at bars, I don't think that we ought to hand them a gun to take it to the next level and say that's okay," he said.

This wasn't an issue till recently. I wonder why that is? To get the votes for this there was probably a change in culture and demographics much like what happened in Colorado.

I doubt either condition exists. This is just another, "I didn't a 'harumpf' outta that guy!" ordinance that will cost a lot of money in court only to be shot down (pun intended).
