(3,813 posts)now I want a chrome bolt carrier group - I am lazy and do not like scrapping carbon
off my bolt.

(3,813 posts)Let's discuss whether the Primary Arms Red Dot sights improve the defensive capability of lawfully owned firearms or not. Specifically:
-Does the red dot cowitness with you r iron sights?
-Is it reliable enough that you feel comfortable relying upon it during an emergency?
-Should it fail, can you see the both the target and the iron sights through the red dot glass?
Thanks,

(3,813 posts)the aim point I use at work does co-witness
and if it fails I can use it with iron sights
we just got it so I trust it, but ....
I will run the Primary Arms thru its paces.
my supv. has one and loves it.
he helped sell me on it.

(15,396 posts)Sighted in easy enough, seems to hold zero well. It's a perfect cowitness for my Irons. The funky little mount is kind of odd, maybe it's improved design wise mine is 5 or 6 years old.
Two big drawbacks is the fact the glass isn't the clearest in the world, it's no Aimpoint that's for sure. Second is battery life instead of 3000 hours it's maybe 4 days. LOL I've left mine on a bunch...
Of course most of PA's stuff is cheap Chinese knockoffs but considering my AR isn't my EDC I don't mind. If I fails to power up I can just ignore it, or if there's time take it off and get it out of the way and go to the iron sights.
An AR makes a great home defense firearm, and there is room enough for budget optics, even for a life saving piece of equipment.
Buy a CMMG 22 conversion kit and enjoy your AR on the cheap (well maybe if you can find ammo) The 223 is so much fun the whole family will want to join in on the plinking, and you'll find yourself with a bunch of empty 30 round magpuls way too quick, and having to replenish your stock.
Make sure the whole family knows how to run your AR, one day it could easily be the most important lesson they've ever learned.

(12,148 posts)Battery life and probably clarity aren't the same level as an Aimpoint, but at 1/5 the price it is a very good value. FWIW, I am saving my pennies to get the Primary Arms 1-6x variable.

(3,813 posts)will get it mounted and zeroed this coming Saturday
and will see what it does.
littlewolf
(3,813 posts)and got it zeroed (about 8 rnds) really nice.
I shot our qual course and with iron sights I
typically shoot a 270-272 ( 60 rnds 270 is passing)
First time out I shot a 279, 2nd time I shot a 281.
target acquisition is fast, I really enjoy it.
highly recommend it.

(15,396 posts)I need to start reloading 223 so I'd shoot mine more.
Maybe I'll buy myself a set of dies for Christmas and a pound of powder. (already have small rifle primers)
