Gun Control & RKBA

ROCKFORD Women who log onto an Illinois State Police Web page will find they are advised to protect themselves with a rat tail comb, keys, pens and pencils against an assailant armed with a gun or knife.
As a last resort, women are told put their fingers into their throats and to make themselves vomit, apparently to make themselves less attractive.
I find that demeaning and insulting, said Valinda Rowe, IllinoisCarry.com spokeswoman.

Morrissey, (I-Mayor-Rockford), a member of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, which supports gun control initiatives, said he supports concealed carry on a professional level and on a personal level.I see every day our challenges for law enforcement, he said. The vast majority of crimes committed with guns are not by those with firearm owners identification cards.
On a personal level, the mayor spoke of threats against his life as a citizen and as mayor.
Its a very chilling experience and disempowering and a feeling of weakness, he said.
The latest threat prompted him to seek and receive security protection from the Rockford Police Department.
Im in a privileged position to get that protection. What about everybody else?
Morrissey also said if he learns that MAIG is against concealed carry he would renounce his membership.

(54,770 posts)law makers who are against guns in public and loosely restricted ownership laws. Maybe the folks of Illinois know something the gun culture doesn't want to admit.

(6,185 posts)The last round of elections we lost a lot of "D" seats in the legislature over the 67% income tax increase. Even after a completely Dem controlled redistricting, there are still a lot of seats in play this time around that shouldn't be.
FWIW concealed carry already has a simple majority voting for it in a Dem controlled legislature and as of this week we're only 3 votes from a supermajority we need to over ride a Governor's veto, by our resident idiot Quinn, and preemption of all local ordinances.
Quinn is in big trouble now too with approval numbers in the upper 30's and low 40s on his best days. After the Blago stupidity and Quinn as a follow up the chances of holding the Governors chair are pretty slim.
Now, tell us why you can't seem to elect a gun control majority in Georgia and do away with your own gun "insanity"? After all everyone you know thinks the same way you do about guns, right?
And here's an idea, next time you decide to comment on a state's politics, it might be nice if you knew jack shit about it.
But that's never stopped you before.

it's easy to associate all firearms owners with the criminals in your area who misuse illegal firearms on a daily basis. Your view of gun owners may also be influenced by the biased portrayal they often receive in the media.
On the other hand, if you live in Florida where firearm ownership is common and many of your neighbors, friends and co-workers own and use firearms responsibly, you learn that there is an enormous difference between a armed honest citizen and a armed criminal.
As firearm ownership grows more common in areas of the nation such as Chicago you may well find that politicians who favor draconian gun laws will find it more difficult to gain election to office.
