Gun charges filed against San Bernardino (R- teabagger) assemblyman

http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-donnelly-20120225,0,5692303.story

Reporting from Sacramento -- The San Bernardino County district attorney's office has filed criminal charges against a California lawmaker who attempted to take a loaded gun onto an airplane.

Tim Donnelly, a self-described tea party Republican from San Bernardino, was charged with carrying a loaded firearm in public without a concealed weapons permit and possessing a gun in an airport. Both offenses are misdemeanors, punishable by up to 18 months in jail and $2,000 in fines.

A vocal advocate for gun rights, Donnelly was detained by police at Ontario International Airport last month after security screeners discovered a loaded .45-caliber Colt Mark IV pistol and an ammunition magazine with an additional five rounds in his carry-on luggage.

The assemblyman, who was headed for Sacramento to attend the opening of the new legislative year, later characterized the incident as an "unfortunate mistake." He told reporters he had forgotten to remove the gun from his briefcase after placing it there while working in his home garage.

Forget to remove a gun?

So much for gun safety and following common sense at an airport.

Either 18 months or $2000 fine for each charge works me.

Too many gun toters show a similar lack of sense . . . . . .and seem to belong to despicable groups like the Minutemen.

Every carry on I ever used, (or seen most people use) I would have noticed it while packing it, if not by the weight while getting the bag out of the closet.
Does he store his luggage in his gun safe? Sounds like he thought he was smarter than the machine.
While withdrawing during the first gulf war, I was detailed to x ray out going baggage to catch war trophies. Some army officer thought he could slip a (Iraqi issue) Tokarev past us. To beat the x-ray, he carved out a regulation book to fit pistol then put sheets of foil as a book cover. Didn't work.

Hostettler did the same thing when he was Congressman from Indiana. managed to get a felony pled down to a misdemeanor and then did "Community Service" so he wouldn't lose his seat.

Same thing happened to Rand Paul, but he's a Libertarian...

What is it with ReTHUGS and their piss-poor situational awareness?

When I have a firearm out of the safe, I know were it is all the time. If I carried a firearm routinely, I would know where that thing was all the time.

I don't understand how you can forget where your gun is.

(1) I didn't know it was there.
(2) I thought I could sneak it through without getting caught.

Which one makes you sound less like an idiot in the news?
