Keyboard commandos vs actual activism and support.

Its often been said, that one side of this debate is keyboard commandos, and the other side engages in real activism.

I give you this example:

After Papa Roux robbery, discount promised for handgun license holders

Maureen C. Gilmer, maureen.gilmer@indystar.com 4:22 p.m. EDT October 26, 2015

Papa Roux is the latest Indy restaurant to be robbed, following four others on the Eastside and another in Broad Ripple.

The Eastside restaurant owned by Bouvier was robbed Saturday night, the first time that's happened in the popular Cajun eatery's eight years of business. Now, Bouvier is offering a 25 percent discount to customers who can show a handgun license.

"We're not saying, 'Show us your gun.' But if you're a legal and stable carrier of a (handgun license), I'm going to reward that," he said. "To me, it's common sense. And until further notice, you'll get 25 percent off your bill."

"A few loyal customers have said they’ll be avoiding Papa Roux because of my stance, and that's a little disheartening. But it's minuscule compared to the overwhelming support," he said. "It’s a shame that some people feel they need to stay away. They’ll go out to eat with the possibility that a criminal will bring a gun in, but they’ll stay away if they think customers might be carrying. That’s weird to me.

(emphasis by me)

That's the background. Now have a look at this (again, the bolding is mine)

At Papa Roux, discount draws a crowd of Second Amendment supporters

Robert King, robert.king@indystar.com 7:12 p.m. EDT October 26, 2015

Typically, it's the catfish plate or the po' boy sandwiches that draw customers to Papa Roux, a Cajun restaurant on East 10th Street near Post Road.

But Monday's unusually heavy crowds at Art Bouvier's little slice of Louisiana in the Midwest didn't just come for the crawfish jambalaya. They also came to support Bouvier's stance on guns. Specifically, Papa Roux's embrace of people who are licensed to carry weapons.

“This is crazy for a Monday,” he said.

By 11 a.m. every table had been claimed, and by noon it was a dozen people deep inside the store, with more folks waiting in the parking lot to get inside. Among them were accountants and medical office workers, a paramedic and an HVAC repairman, small-business owners and a smiling politician.

But if there were gun opponents in the lunch crowd at Papa Roux on Monday, they were keeping their views to themselves. There were no protests outside the shop. And even on Bouvier’s Facebook page, the skeptics of his purposes and wisdom were drowned out by affirmations of his stance. In the restaurant, the celebration of the Second Amendment was at fullest volume.

That's pretty much the peak of "activism" hereabouts.

spree killer (when, in reality, people carry because of more common violent crimes) but you have to wonder about keyboard warriors and how many spree killers they can actually stop.

But this is what makes the right to armed self-defense a Deep, Widespread Movement. All movements are built on shared values, beliefs, causes and objectives; in fact no movement can exist in any meaningful manner unless those shared experiences are in place. Oh, the loud talk by some, amped up by MSM, and righteously mumbled by some politicians can LOOK like a movement is occuring. But the day-to-day fund-raising and outreach (as in the OP's example) which goes on every day in this country is what constitutes the foundation of any strong sustaining Movement.

This is a lesson for all progressives who want to build ANY Movement of shared values, beliefs, and objectives.

6. Thats a 'top down' movement, not a 'bottom up' movement.

I note this, for those who understand that theres a difference between the two, rather than those who pretend there isn't.

For example: A 'bottom up' movement, doesn't include terrorist marathon bombers as 'victims'.

OTOH, at Bloomberg's age and health, even a bowel movement is going to be applauded.

gotten through congress lately. Back in March, the ATF tried to ban XM855/SS109...what happened? Immediate retreat and the ATF director resigned...and that was just over relatively crappy ammo.

His overall business is up 135% over last month and he's hired 3 new additional kitchen and waitstaff employees since this was on the local news.

He said he intends to keep the 25% discount for the forseeable future. His added volume more than makes up for the discount and not every permit holder takes the discount anyway. Customers are coming from as far away as Ohio, Michigan and Illinois.

I guess Shannon Watts, local Indianapolis woman and Bloomberg gun control employee, hasn't gotten around to protesting him yet? I'm sure she and her protesting hordes will be there .... any minute.
