Gov. McAuliffe, GOP announce landmark gun control compromise

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -In a sweeping compromise changing the future of Virginia’s gun laws, Gov. Terry McAuliffe and House Speaker William J. Howell will reveal the details of a rare bipartisan agreement Friday, outlining changes to controversial gun control measures in the Commonwealth.

Virginia will recognize concealed carry permits from 25 states, in exchange for people with certain protective orders no longer allowed to carry guns.

State Police will now be available at every gun show to administer voluntary background checks for private sales. However, participation by private sellers will be voluntary.

The move comes a month after Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring announced concealed carry permits from states with less stringent regulations would not be recognized.
