Unarmed man attempts to rob EMU student of holstered gun (open carry fail)

http://www.annarbor.com/news/crime/unarmed-man-attempts-to-rob-emu-student-carrying-holstered-gun/

An unarmed man attempted to rob an Eastern Michigan University student of his handgun Thursday morning while he walked on Pearl Street near the campus in Ypsilanti, university officials said.

According to an email alert sent out by EMU, the student — an open-carry advocate — was walking at about 9:15 a.m. in the 300 block of Pearl Street when he was approached by an unknown man. The man grabbed the student’s holstered handgun and attempted to wrestle it away from the student, according to the alert.

Another person walking by the area came to the student’s aid and was able to secure the handgun, EMU said in the statement.

The suspect fled the area on foot, and no one was reported to be injured.

Without that guy it could have gone either way.
For the record, I have handguns but have no need to carry. It's just one more thing I would have to worry about.

I almost always CC when I do carry that way no one knows that I'm carrying, on rare occasions I do OC but when I do, I am very aware of who is around me.

I would think it would be difficult to "wrestle" a gun from a holster like this:

...where it appears the gun is secured, as oppose to something like:

When one tests for a OC or CC permit, doesn't the training include how to fend on such attacks?

as far as the type of holster, I really don't know but my OC holster looks something like those 2 on the bottom but it has a release button so you can't just come up from behind and just grab it out of the holster.

Perfect!

I'm familiar with EMU. I certainly hope that student wasn't allowed to carry a gun on-campus.

YOU probably want to avoid toting if you want to shoot everyone. No wonder you feel so strongly about being rude in public if you can't control your violent tendencies better than that.

what a reasoned response. You seem to have this unhealthy fascination with Zimmerman. As a matter of fact, my CHL does make me less violent, not that I was violent in the first place, but knowing that I'm armed makes me that much careful.

Your posts just get more and more idiotic each day.

CC is much better in my opinion.
The anti 2nd Amendment brigade forgets that a lot of us have been trained, have shown maturity, and refuse to be a victim.
When I posted my link to my friend killed for nothing not one of the regular bashers had the balls to follow up.
Those are probably folks that should never carry anyway.

Too easy to lose your ass in the courts even if it was lawful.
But I would before I really lost my ass.

I never want to cheapen this man's death. It was so useless and we all knew it could have been anyone of us and that guilt is still there.
We wanted the death penalty, revenge?, sure but they got life without parole for a couple of decades.
They were denied in their first hearing, as long as a few of us from then are around we will try and make sure they never breathe free air again.

You didn't cheapen his death.

I think life w/o parole is much better than the DP because the dirtbag gets to sit in prison and never taste freedom again.
