Any SIG owners?

Wondering if there are any experienced SIG-Sauer owners on here, and what your thoughts might be. I'm looking at getting for occasional concealed carry (more likely a glove box gun when I'm out in the boonies) either a 229 or a 226, probably 9mm - can't afford practice ammo in .45 or .357. I've put a few magazines down a 226, but that's about the limit of my experience with them.

1. For CC I would recommend

he 229. You can carry the 226 but it is a FULL sized pistol.

I have owned a 229 for 25 years. It is 100% reliable and as or more accurate out of the box than custom jobs I have seen. It has eaten every type of ammo I have run through it from cast lead handloads to top self premium.

They may be a bit pricey but you will get your money's worth.

2. I own a P232 in .380

A bit underpowered but a nice pocket pistol. It fits perfectly in one of the pouches of my mountain bike luggage.

I like mine a lot. I'm going to quibble a bit -- not a pants-pocket pistol by any means. Maybe a coat-pocket pistol. And .380 gets a bad rap; it's not .357 Magnum or .45 ACP, but it's not exactly a pea-shooter.

Wrap-around with fingergrooves. I also have a couple of Bersas -- .380 and .22 -- with the same type of grip. I find it very comfortable.

3. I have been CC a 220 full size for the last 10 years.

Highly dependable, accurate, easy to maintain, and will feed any reasonable powered ammo without a glitch or even a burp.
Mine is a 45 and I reload my own practice ammo.

5. 229 S&W40 here.

It's a great little (actually a compact) gun. A little large for serious CC but not that bad, I'm a fan of DA/SA pistols.

Remember if you wanted buy a 40, then all you need is a 357 barrel and you can have a 357. You can also buy a 9mm conversion barrel and magazines.


Not a whole lot of difference between the 226 and 229 all the features are the same, just a shorter frame and barrel. I think the grip is the same actually.

I'd love to have a 229 9mm and a 220 to go along with my 40.

7. The new

Model P938 in 9mm is a good choice if you like a 1911 style pistol. I have owned several Sig's in the past and I currently have a P238 for summer carry. I have never owned a better handgun than a Sig. They are very reliable and are tough as nails. Can't beat em'

8. I am ready to get beat up on this but...

I had a Sig 2022, the entry level Sig, shot it and loved it. I was going to move up to the 226, but borrowed a friends Glock 19, loved that even more. I have about 3000 rounds through it and have had very few misfires, I can think of 2 ( there may be more but not many) and both of them at the end of a long day of shooting and the weapon was dirty. UMC Bulk for range fun. Although the 19 is the compact Glock, it is really not that compact. great for the glove box, but only ok to conceal carry. SO, i went out and bought the Glock 26. Love that it takes the 19 mags with the extra rounds which keeps it kind of fun at the range. It is a great conceal carry and i have well over 1000 rounds through it too with no problems.

There are lots of Glock Haters out there, but in my opinion, they make a hell of a gun.

Cant go wrong with the SIg, but I find them to be a little pricier and heavier than the Glock

9. nope the p250 is entry level....the 2022 is a fine pistol.

I know two people with those guys (9 and 40) and they both love them and report they're 100% reliable and accurate.

That being said the Glocks are fine firearms...I'd love to have a G36. I've shot the 26's brother the 27 and loved it I just found it a tad small for a 40, I'd bet the 26 is a great CC 9mm.

You are right, I loved the 26 and the ability to control it. The 27 was a little small for the round. I have a good size hand (not too big, not too small, just right) and there was a lot of bang in the .40 for me.

13. Sig did a terrible job of marketing

their SigPro line. And it's a shame, because they're a terrific pistol - probably the best trigger out of the box of any of their pistols. And a very good value at $400.

The P250 was intended as the replacement, but Sig has never been able to deliver on the promise of the design features or to introduce a DA/SA version. It's never caught on, and dealers have had a terrible time trying to move them from their inventories. YMMV

I've tried the glock, it is just not comfortable in my hand. Outside of that they are fine pistols.

Though sometimes I wonder if there is a mind control chip that is combining all the owners into a cult

You either love it or hate it. Not much middle ground.

12. I own a few...

the 229 is slightly smaller and more concealable than a 226. I'd recommend getting in .40 S&W...as you can purchase conversion barrels in both .357 Sig and 9mm that allow you to shoot all three calibers (the 9mm are aftermarket mfgs who bore a .40/.357 blank to 9mm) using the same platform (same frame, magazines, and recoil spring). Very cool.

If you're looking at something in 9mm, don't overlook the German Polizei trade-in P6s (a P225)... they're affordable (usually just under 5 bills), and they're nuts-on accurate. Most have a bit of wear, but that just gives 'em character.

Be careful though, they're as addictive as eating pistachios...and the Signess can be contagious.

17. Prefer polymer over metal framed handguns

Too bad SIG doesn't make any polymer framed handguns that are worth a damn. I've had the 2022, p226, p229, and sometimes carry the p228. They're ok handguns but the plastic handguns are miles above and of the SIGs IMO.
