http://english.alarabiya.net/articles/2012/08/02/230033.htmlThe increasing crime rate especially with the remarkable rise in the number of illegal manpower and the consequent frequency of armed burglaries drove Saudi girls to demand the right to carry weapons and get the necessary training to use them for self-defense.
I call upon officials to establish training centers that teach girls shooting in summer vacations and over weekends, said university student Nora al-Asmari.

It is important, he added, that those centers focus on the use of weapons as an act of self-defense to be used in case of attacks only.
Trainees have to learn that they should not infringe on other peoples rights and trainers should point out the difference between violence and self-defense.
Shamri also recommended that girls learn other means of self-defense like martial arts.
They should also acquire the mental skills needed to react to dangerous situations, he said.
Askar al-Askar, researcher in Islamic affairs and counter-terrorism, said there is no contradiction between teaching girls self-defense and Islamic teachings.

(6,801 posts)the criminals will just take those guns away from them. They're more likely to shoot themselves than a criminal. And so on.

(46,270 posts)women in Saudi Arabia would be able to carry and use weapons, but still couldn't drive motor vehicles.
I don't see it.

It was a huge deal to allow one woman to compete in the Olympics (in a headscarf no less).

(54,770 posts)If they had political power, the women should go for disarming the macho men --that would be better for their society. Hopefully, they'll soon evolve.
But, it'll probably take longer here because NRA and other right wing gun groups own Congress. And whether right wing or not, the gun culture does NRA's bidding.

(6,801 posts)you've noticed that women tend to be smaller and physically weaker than men right?
There's all sorts of studies on it.
Anyway if you force women to rely on their brute strength to defend themselves (rather than some equalizer like a weapon) they will always lose to men.
So yeah I'm sure Saudis would be happier to have a thoroughly disarmed society rather than one that allows women the right to self-defense.
/in case it wasn't clear "in their place" was a reference to how woman are viewed in that society. Not my personal preference.

do A first strike I could probably take anyone but a marine, seal or army ranger. (or a healthy martial arts practitioner)
One problem is if they end up dead, which ain't that hard you get cops involved.
I am going to be going to school board meeting & raising hell, team sports need to be thrown out.
They have no relevant reasons to exist. With all the mass killings, make a choice, let your children be helpless & in danger their whole lives or teach them how to fight.
Womens soccer is more dangerous than mens football. If you want to stop sexual abuse, teach a woman how to stomp the crap out of all challengers. If I had any children, they would be going to kung fu & be taught
Phillipino stick fighting & combat handgunning.
My teacher was a 5'4" woman & every few weeks a competing teacher would come in to challenge her skill & a fight would ensue.
She beat the crap out of every last one & they were all way bigger than her.
