16,454,951 NICS Background Checks Done in 2011! Beating the old yearly record by 2,000,000!

Maybe MANY more guns were actually sold because one background check can equal multiple guns and many Concealed Carry license holders do not need to go through the NICS check to buy a gun!

Also, 1,862,327 Background Checks in December. A New Monthly Record!

Both the yearly total and December total are new records since the NICS system went into effect in 1998!

More and more Americans are armed!

The Democrats need to give up the Gun Control battle and stop letting the GOP and NRA use it against us to raise money to throw GREAT dems out of office.

who already had firearms and the number of new owners was small. They however did not supply any numbers to back up their claims.

But no, they never want to be disabused of their notions, facts bedamned.

There are a lot more introductory classes being held at places like Bass Pro Shops (which makes its conference rooms / range available for instructors for a fee). We've seen a lot of new concealed carry folks show up on the local forum devoted to the topic.

Heck, I've given more informal classes to friends or friends of friends this year than last year- most of them women, and a majority have never owned a handgun. Many have never owned or been around guns at all.

4. That is a real positive in the new owners are getting training.

It used to seem people would by a gun and didn't know how to safely operate it. The time to learn is not when you are in a bad situation. Also, relying on Divine Intervention is probably not the best method either.

5. The range to which I'm a member provides training for new shooters.

I recall that one of the managers told me a couple of years ago that the beginner's classes had a 6 month backlog - unprecedented. Next time I'm there I'll ask what the current situation is.
