Robbers attack CCWer, one gets shot, other runs away.

http://www2.wspa.com/news/2012/nov/12/13/deputies-scene-greenville-co-shooting-ar-4954058/

It is getting to be such a routine story that few details are given anymore.

SNIP

Investigators tell 7 On Your Side that the victim, who has a Concealed Weapons Permit, fought back when one of the suspects pointed a gun at him. The victim pulled his gun and fired two shots, hitting one of the men in the chest. The other suspect got away.

"Two men opened the passenger door, stuck the gun in his face and said I'm here to rob you. And they started struggling in the car," said Lt. Tim Ridgeway with the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.

The robber that was hit was shot twice in the chest. He is in the hospital in serious condition.

Once again it didn't go according to the anti's script. CCWer was able to get his gun, didn't shoot any innocents, was able to correctly identify who the bad guy was, (Kind of obvious. The BG was the one trying to rob him by shoving a gun at him.)

BTW - Most of the self-defense stories I find, I don't post here. I look for ones involving a CCW or something more dramatic about the story. There is another routine armed-robber-goes-to-rob-store-,owner-shoots-kills-robber story that I am not posting. No details, too routine.

The best advice came from the cop.
"Ridgeway says with robberies up in the county, you should always be aware of your surroundings. And you should avoid being outside alone.

If you have to be outside alone, Ridgeway says be alert. Don't get distracted. And pay attention to details, faces and groups of lingering people."

Personally, I can't imagine carrying anything on me worth killing or dying for, but that's just me.

Some gang members will kill to build up their "street cred", their reputation as being a real bad ass. Others will kill because they get a feeling of power from it. Some will kill because they are angry that you didn't have enough to pay for their effort in robbing you.

worth killing and (ideally not) dying for, right? And that's what the decision to carry or not is about: protection from grievous physical harm. It's not really about how much you value the things you're carrying...

So it would be a wash at best. I cannot imagine any good coming from it. However, if I lived somewhere it made sense to carry, then I wouldn't hesitate.

He saw those 2 watching him and the hackles on his neck went up and he prepared himself for what he believed would be a confrontation.

The "gift of fear" is what kept our species alive for a few thousand years.

It has to be relearned by people today now that our major predators are two legged.

What did the CCWer use? A 9mm? A .380? A .22?

Has he learn from his experience? If so, what are the odds that he is now in the market for something bigger?
