(Oregon) State senator to introduce bill limiting gun magazines to 10 rounds

State senator to introduce bill limiting gun magazines to 10 rounds
By Steve Benham KATU.com Politics Editor Published: Dec 12, 2012 at 6:39 PM PST Last Updated: Dec 13, 2012 at 3:00 PM PST

PORTLAND, Ore. – The day after the fatal shooting rampage by a lone gunman at a local mall Tuesday, Oregon state Sen. Ginny Burdick, D-Portland, said she’ll introduce a bill next legislative session to limit gun magazines to 10 rounds.

Burdick sent an email to her fellow lawmakers Wednesday morning urging them to support her legislation after police said 22-year-old Jacob Tyler Roberts entered the Clackamas Town Center Tuesday afternoon with an AR-15 and opened fire, killing 45-year-old Steve Forsyth and 54-year-old Cindy Yuille. Kristina Shevchenko, 15, was badly wounded and was still in the hospital Wednesday in serious condition.

Police said Roberts then shot himself dead.

In her email to lawmakers, Burdick argued large capacity magazines can increase the number of people killed when someone opens fire in a crowded public place.

Umm, hello? Ms. Burdick, have you ever heard of a place called Virginia Tech and/or a
fellow named Seng-hui Cho? This isn't quite on the level of "shoulder thing that goes up"-
but it's close.

The gungeoneer's obsession with gun trivia is of no concern to me. What I am concerned about is the fact that today 27 children were slaughtered by yet another gun nut.

And blaming "gun nuts" in general instead of blaming the particular "nut" responsible
for this tragedy is like blaming "box cutter nuts" for 9/11...

At a morning radio appearance to promote her upcoming legislation, she said

" "If you look at the mass shootings that we've had in this country, the shooter eventually is brought down when they have to change clips,' she said on KEX's 'Mark and Dave' show. 'To have a 50-round clip, which is not that unusual, allows you to shoot potentially 50 people before you have to change clips.'

In her world, as she said, 50-round clips are not unusual.

The clips that we use, however, are limited to 6 rounds.

If you ever want to see how fast Jerry Miculek can reload with moon clips, check him out on YouTube.

Pencil thin barrels with a high velocity round causes walking. Sometimes in as little as three shots.

The Clackamas Town Center shooter's high capacity "clips" (/rolleyes) allowed him to kill, um...two. She's an embarrassment (but not an embarrassment from my particular district in Portland, so there's nothing I can do about it).

Either the perp commits suicide, or is shot.

'tackles' like Loughner, or the Unitarian Universalists church shooting are the exception, not the rule.
And Loughner was likely 'tackleable' because his horseshit Glock 18 magazine likely jammed in place. There's a reason only one military in the world uses that weapon, and only for one exotic purpose.

Anything gun owners are willing to "compromise" on is considered merely a first step.

Hell, I had a grabber just a week or so ago on DU, tell me that "compromise" really means gun owners have to adjust our expectations for what we should "be allowed to own".

Witness California and Chicago as pragmatic examples of gun control creeping incrementalism.

They'll come back for more every time.

But it is hysterically funny to hear some of them in Meta "celebrating" the ongoing success of gun control, while Illinois goes CCW the same day. The backlash cometh!
