Indian-American group learns to shoot after break-ins
ROSWELL, Ga.
After experiencing a rash of violent home invasions and robberies targeting their community, a group of Indian American men gathered Saturday at a North Fulton firing range to learn gun safety and for target practice.
The men said police can't always get there in time, and they want to be able to protect themselves...

(8,747 posts)1. I wondered why they were being targeted by criminals...
Then I read the article:
The men believe the suspects were targeting the wealthier Indian American community, because many families keep gold items in their homes. Many in the community also are not used to owning guns.
I suppose they should lock their gold up in a bank vault somewhere, that way they won't be at fault for being targeted by criminals.

The stew of urban myth and self-serving stereotypes continues to simmer due to a lack of knowledge about the many large and expanding cultures that have immigrated to our country; the faster we learn, the better for all concerned. As of now, it seems that Koreans seem the most likely to be armed, followed by Asians in general. Cuban-Americans must rank fairly high. Pakistanis are often known to have weapons handy. As for Indians, there has been talk in this group before about liberalized gun laws in that nation. Whether or not that translates to being better armed when in this country is open to speculation.
