Al Qaeda will tell us what we should not do.

Al what? People have long forgotten about 9/11 and the planes hitting skycrapers, the Pentagon, and a Pennsylvania field. The human brain was thankfully designed to forget when memories are not desired, at least in the case of us elderly.
But memories also fade away to give room for new experiences. Those fading memories remain the sole storage for some time before they vanish altogether.

The Snowden affair somehow reminds us that there are still threats out there. And we take for granted that someone at NSA is doing his job as signals specialist, ready to quickly recognize any threat against the United States and its allies so that action can be taken to neutralize said threat. That was precisely Edward Snowden's job. And it is vital to U.S. security and should not be abandoned under no circumstances.

Now we have the TSA and NSA

Now we are constantly reminded by those who want to keep us afraid (like you?) that we were attacked on 9/11

Why do we not have leaders saying "We have nothing to fear but fear itself"... Perhaps because the war machine(military industrial complex) NEEDS fear in the populace so it can continue to grab huge amounts of govt $$$
