A former Fort Carson civilian employee is set to stand trial in federal court after allegedly making a series of "terroristic" threats against the Mountain Post, according to an affidavit obtained by the Gazette on Tuesday.
According to court records, Douglas Kunz had been employed with Fort Carson for more than two years and had worked as a butcher with the base's commissary when the alleged threats were made.
He was indicted by a grand jury on June 16 after allegedly making threats that referenced Columbine High School, shootings at Fort Hood and the Oklahoma City bombing.
A Facebook post, followed by threatening text messages allegedly written by Kunz in January, led to him being banned from Fort Carson indefinitely, according to court documents penned by an FBI investigator.
Investigators believe Kunz was venting about a job transfer that didn't materialize when he posted on Facebook that he would "go out of my way to be hated."
