The F-35 Joint Striker Fighter Program being developed by Lockheed Martin Corporation (LMT) has been termed the highest-valued weapons program from the US Department of Defense to date. According to some estimates, the program has so far cost the Pentagon around $1.5 trillion.

Amid the turbulent US Aerospace and Defense landscape, Lockheed Martin has been able to sustain itself. The company has leveraged a strong position in the Department of Defense to achieve this.

The F-35 program is termed the largest catalyst behind the company’s strong position with the US Department of Defense, with the Pentagon having invested so much in the program. According to some estimates, the F-35 program has contributed around 18% of Lockheed Martin’s second-quarter revenues.

It was announced in the first week of October that Lockheed Martin was awarded a modification contract worth $331.4 million for the F-35. Moreover, the company also announced that the F-35A aircraft, to be delivered to Australia, completed its maiden flight.
