I think we have a bobcat as a neighbor , first time ever hearing the cry

We live close to michaux state forest it’s rural a very mountainous terrain. On back porch having coffee after work enjoying the birds singing, and I heard this growl or scream several times so I googled bobcat and it sounds the same I’m thinking cool.

Where my folks lived, there was a bobcat named Narf. We didn't figure out for years that it was a bobcat. It was just this creature out there in the dark, in the woods and the fields, that could sometimes be heard to go, "narf. narf."

My little brother and his friends, when they were teenagers, would hear it when they were out there doing whatever it was they shouldn't be doing. They didn't know what it was, so they named it Narf.

Sometimes Narf would let out a terrifying scream instead, and scare the pants off them. Eventually, we figured out that Narf was a bobcat, and not some sort of hobgoblin.

where I grew up. They would sound just like a woman screaming. Being outside and hearing that sound at night would just about make my blood run cold.

I know where my sis is, it's just horrible when they start howling in the middle of the night because it sounds like a "help help help".

It sounds like a dog that's being abused. I wouldn't like to hear that at night, either.

when the foxes are out and people aren't familiar with their "scream". She has a black lab who obviously senses them and will suddenly start barking at them (from inside) in the middle of the night.

Liked to take a dump right near my cabin on occasion. I saw it's leavings and tracks but never saw it.

Not sure if it was a bobcat or a lynx. Just sitting watching traffic.

I tried to get it out of the road so it wouldn't get hit. The bird wasn't having any of it.
Also had a house cat, Big Dennis. Measured him once, 22 inch waist.

I couldn't believe it didn't freak them out!

Yes - a scream that kind of sounds like a garbled, high pitch (woman's?) scream!
