African American Group: Most Racist States In the U.S

http://www.thetoptens.com/most-racists-states-us/

This list is probably not valid , but something to chew on anyway.

1- Mississippi

2- Alabama

3- Texas

4- Tennessee

5- Louisiana

6- Georgia

7- Kentucky

8- Missouri

9- Arkansas

10- Oklahoma

I was surprised not to see Florida, because rural Florida and the northern panhandle are pretty damn old school southern.

I live in Illinois. I think we are pretty bad, but we are not on that list.

the hands down most racist place he has ever been in his entire life. And we were both born and raised in the South.

I think this list is a little skewed but it's still interesting info.

I was shocked and appalled by the overt racism. I'm sure there was racism where I lived in the north, but, since there were so few people of color where I grew up, I was mostly oblivious to it. I worked for a man who made me follow the few people of color around the store when they came in, but he made me follow a lot of white people around the store too. He was an equal opportunity bigot and what mostly interested him was whether or not one was likely to shoplift and to pay his/her bills. People he did not know (and more than a few that he did know) were followed.

Tourism changed Florida in an incredible way. First, visitors became a source of income; the visitors loved this place enough that many relocated here, white, beige black, brown, bronze, and all shades that people come in. If one wants return and word of mouth customers, one treats those customers with respect. Overall, the state has become a real melting pot.

Yes, racism still exists. Law enforcement, as in other parts of the country, seems to be stuck in the fifties, and since Jeb Bush became governor and the Republicans gerrymandered the state so they have perpetual control of the State Legislature, it has become the rule to exclude as many people of color as they can from voting. That also seems to be a problem in states where Republicans own the legislatures.

But we've made progress here. And I hope we continue to do so.

Racism isn't just a southern problem.

Eight of them are up north - Cleveland, Boston, NYC, Chicago, Philadelphia included.

It seems there's enough racism going around to put the blame around the entire nation.

Someone once said the Pennsylvania is Pittsburgh on one end - Phillie on the other, and Alabama in the middle.

I'm beginning to think the US is Los Angeles on one end - NYC on the other, and Alabama in the middle.

Your "Alabama in the middle" comment is not far from the mark.

It's mostly in the rural areas. I live in Clay county and recently there were a few rednecks that were riding around in their trucks with the rebel flag planted in it. It's embarrassing to say the least, they don't see they're revealing just how stupid and backward they are. The irony is these people actually feel superior and of course they're repuglicans.
I grew up in N. FL and it's not nearly as bad as it use to be. I remember separate water fountains and bathrooms. Been a long time since Rosewood. As more ethnic groups bring diversity they water down the bigots. I hear we might be getting some Syrian immigrants fleeing the devastion of the civil war. Hope so.

If you take away Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, the rest of the state is Alabama. And Philadelphia, at least, is terribly segregated and filled to the brim with the kind of racial animus you see in places like Boston and Chicago. I'm ignorant about Pittsburgh, so it's off the hook for right now.)

I'm in the Philly area, and mom still lives there.

I'd have to add NJ to the list as well. Camden, Newark, etc...
