MLK associate tells Memphis Baptist group he’s backing Bernie Sanders

Knoxville minister Rev. Harold Middlebrook, a Memphis native and former lieutenant of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., told the gathering of more than 50 black preachers at Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in South Memphis that Sanders represented everything he had struggled for over the last 50 years, detailing the Vermont senator's plans to offer free college, reform the criminal justice system, raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour and provide universal health care for all Americans.

"We've got to be concerned not just about popularity and names, but we've got to look at the issues and see who is going to really speak on our behalf," Middlebrook said. "And if we make a solid impression in Memphis, if Memphis wants to, Memphis can carry any election in this state."

Middlebrook, a Booker T. Washington High School graduate, is the retired pastor of Canaan Baptist Church in Knoxville and has spent his life involved in the fight for civil rights.

Locally, he helped organize marches and the Black Monday school boycotts in the 1960s. He was at the Lorraine Motel when King was killed in 1968.

So, it's good to see that those closest to MLK would think highly of Bernie.

Doesn't matter to me.

I'm still going to make up my own mind and do my own thing -

And I think everyone should do the same.

I don't think that the neoliberals, or any Republicans think much of MLK's politics.

I'm asking you to as a group host.

Sanders and Clinton supporters have their respective groups, GDP, and GD.

There isn't going to be a tit for tat argument back here.

Bring your Focus back onto on Sanders - or self delete.

He's your candidate and you should only be promoting him. I did that all the time when O'Malley was in the running on the ballot - though he remains in my heart.

discussion about Hillary's weaknesses and Sanders' strengths and vice versa.

But I have absolutely no time for johnny come lately's that want to wander into this forum, and skip pass the 62 threads on BLM, the 55 threads on racism in media, the 187 threads on racism in prison sentencing and only want to talk about Bernie Damn Sanders.

They are transparent as hell and we have absolutely no interest in them or what they think they are going to sell here.

REASON FOR ALERT

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS

It is *extremely* inappropriate for a Clinton supporter to tell a Bernie supporter that that they are not allowed to post in this forum, just because the Bernie supporter had something positive to say about Bernie and the Clinton supporter didn't want to hear it.

They wanna cry if they can't get their way in whitesplaining me to death about their candidate...jezzus...just send me an invite to GD-P, BS, or HC forums so I can ignore it...why come in here and harass, talk down to, then alert-stalk...rinse, repeat. How many posts like this in the past 2 weeks? 20? 30?

Don't even get me started on these lazy jurors who have NO IDEA the context of all these stupid "candidate carpet bombers" tactics and even some who advocate this action (Juror #5, and holier-than-thou Juror #2).

in that alert.

Props to Juror #7. Juror #2 has issues. These so-called dispassionate jurors are making it easy as hell for us to stop asking folks to leave and just start banning.

So I tip my hat to the clueless folks that have decided that those of us in the AA Group don't have the right to ask people to stop barging in here for the sole purpose of plugging some presidential candidate. You are making things mighty easy for us.
