New York Film Critics Circle Awards: Steve McQueen Heckled By Film Critic

A member of the New York Film Critics Circle put a damper on the group's 69th annual awards ceremony when he heckled a winner from the audience. From the back of the Edison Hotel Ballroom in Gotham, Armond White, the controversial film critic for CityArts, yelled at Steve McQueen, the NYFCC's best director winner for 12 Years a Slave, "You’re an embarrassing doorman and garbage man. F— you. Kiss my ass," according to a Variety reporter seated near him.

The outburst from White, who has behaved similarly at past NYFCC ceremonies and has derided McQueen's film since October, could not be heard from the front of the room and did not interrupt the proceedings. McQueen had just taken the stage following a passionate introduction from the legendary Harry Belafonte that left the director in tears and stole the show up to that point.

1. I think Armond White's sole purpose in life is to piss people off

I have a hard time believing that he even believes his own movie reviews, he always gives the great movies bad reviews but if there is a universally reviled movie that pretty much everyone agrees is terrible he will give it a rave review. I have a hard time believing anyone has as bad of taste in movies as he does, I seriously think he writes the reviews the way he does not because he actually believes it but because he wants his reviews to piss people off.

Hopefully this latest act will finally get the film critics circle to stop inviting him to events, I know Rotten Tomatoes has already stopped linking to his reviews of new movies because of his obvious trolling.

2. Agreed. 12 Years A Slave and its director deserve every honor

This so-called critic would be welcomed by the Klan after that outburst - and his ridiculous review of the movie.

And the critic is African-American? Just add him to the Allen West / Clarence Thomas wing of messed up brothas.
