Hey! Is "CP time" like "Indian Time"?

Because every tribal meeting, pow wow, spirit sister group, beading group, 69, or benefit dance I have every been to always ended with "see you next week at 7:30 and that is Indian time." Which of course means, we get there when we get there.

Fry bread and bean suppers excluded from Indian time because every body is always on time for the bean pot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My mother was 1/2 Indian. I laugh at this because my Mom always said that Gramma would be late for her own funeral.

It's interesting how common this is among so many ethnic groups and usually it's talked about among people in the community itself.

For Westerners, time is most often a lineal reality where time flows straight ahead from now into the future in a sequential fashion. The "Protestant Work Ethic" and also the need for earning money play into this. Time equals money.

In non-Western cultures around the world, time is more of a multiplicity and the focus is more on the "Now". Also, interpersonal relations are more important that money. If you are having a conversation with someone, it's more important to finish the interaction than it is to look at your watch and think of the NEXT thing you have to do.

But for me, it's an interesting topic and touches on how different people perceive and experience reality. So while some people can howl at the moon over a recent skit done by a couple of politicians and one stage actor… I find myself curious and wanting to know more.

It's been about 35 years since my University days, so I can't give any sociological/anthropological academic citations for this.

Looking for info on the internet it's interesting that most of what I found is from BUSINESS oriented websites. Apparently with the global economy, Western management needs to learn how to work with peoples from different cultures.

I did find an interesting article if anyone wants to read it:

My son is half Cowachan and I never completely lost my ties to the NA community. Indian time was always the cause of much laughter.

Where black folks live on the other side of town, women are best off being quiet, pregnant and in the kitchen, and where life is just better because there aint no rabble rousing black people and we aint even heard of hippies yet.
