African American
Related: About this forumDemocratSinceBirth has been FFR'ed ...
for, as you can imagine, the silliest reason ... in a thread that, for the (seemingly) millionth time, someone trots out the "Server Scandal". DSB's, apparently, hide-worthy comments were: 1) posting that "Several posters have had their accounts flagged for indictment incitement..."; and 2) posting "Three more days...Forewarned is forearmed." (The hides were 9 minutes apart)
Or, maybe the posts were hidden because of the "Bye Bye" GIFs he included ... either way, the hides were thin-skinned BS.
It should be remembered that DSB has always been good and supportive member of this Group and a friend to African American, Hispanic, and glbtq posters (and in my opinion, has shown great restraint towards some really, really, foul actors) ... Further, DSB has always defended President Obama and his policies, and has been a strong defender of the Clintons.
Whereas, I would think that someone with that background would be held out as a model on a Democratic board, it seems those characteristics draw wrath, instead, these days.
I find that odd; but, hey ... a couple more days, and this, likely, will resolve itself ... until the discussion is directly about race matters.

(1,499 posts)Heck, I may not put "defender of the Clintons" in my + column, but this:
"DSB has always been good and supportive member of this Group and a friend to African American, Hispanic, and glbtq posters"
Is 100% CORRECT.
Having watched FAR more of my preferred candidates lose than win over my lifetime, I have to wonder how many of my fellow Sanders supporters have been though more than one campaign. If you are going to stand on principle, you are going to lose and if you are going to lose, you better learn how to take defeat.
That's called "life."
1StrongBlackMan
(31,849 posts)That's called "life."
Here ... Here ... But I have found of late, ignoring real life lessons is damned near a requirement, in order to make half the stuff posted to DU, the least bit reasonable.
Uponthegears

1StrongBlackMan
(31,849 posts)because I'm currently in a back and forth that proves my point ...
OP: Judge allows locations of surveillance cameras to remain undisclosed.
DU: FASCISM! We have a right to know!
Me: Nope. It's settled law ... you don't have a reasonable expectation of privacy when out in public. Besides, surveillance cameras are useful for other things beyond spying on people ... like serving as a starting point for missing child/persons investigations.
DU: Figures YOU would say that ... you authoritarian lackey!
Me: Nope. I practiced law. I worked with Law Enforcement. It's the law. So with that knowledge, I find it best that when in public, we conduct ourselves, accordingly!
DU: Are you a privacy law expert? Your experience is anecdotal.
Me: Yes ... anecdotal derived from real life. What are you basing your opinion on?
DU: You don't know me! So my opinion is as valid as yours. You conservative!
Me: Okay.
However, you come down on the ruling ... DU can be exhausting!
Uponthegears
(1,499 posts)That is becoming par.
1StrongBlackMan
(31,849 posts)We've seen DUers arguing with a Statistical Analyst ... that on-line polling is as valid as telephonic polling ... Arguing with lawyers that the Banksters can be jailed because a blog said so (without identifying who or what for) ...
Perhaps, I romanticize the DU of old (in the same way DU:progressives romanticize FDR), as a place where facts and reality (i.e., the way the world really works) informed ideology; rather than, allowing ideology determine what is, is not, fact or/and reality.
Uponthegears
(1,499 posts)Makes everyone a doctor or a lawyer. If it were just posers it would be sad, but it's not nearly so benign. Now it's people poisoning conversations with something they read somewhere that fits their world view. It's nothing but a shouting contest. Not to be hyperbolic, but it's like trying to have a discussion with a thousand Trumps.
wildeyed
(11,243 posts)and loved it. I learned fast to have my facts straight and links ready. If you got called out and were not prepared, people piled on pretty quickly. Not so much these days. I get a bunch of static for refusing to click on random blog links or watch YouTube propaganda that is posted as "facts", but I will not waste my time with that mess.
Hoping that the new moderation improves the level of dialog. It is harder to derail legitimate debate when ad homs and broad brushes are off the table.
The irony is that I was attracted to this place because I wanted to get away from the echo chamber that was MSM during the Bush years. But we seemed to have created our own echo chamber now.

My recollection is that, if you get two hides within a certain time period, probably 24 hours, the software automatically puts you into FFR status, which means that your posting privileges are suspended until an admin reviews the account.
The result is that some people with double-digit hide counts in the last 90 days are still perfectly free to post, while someone with many fewer hides is FFR'd if two of them happened to be close together.
Some people come off FFR very promptly. Others have languished there for months.

(24,544 posts)For some people, this forum is nothing more but target practice. When we discuss black movies, books, discrimination in housing/media/prison sentencing or general black issues they are NOWHERE TO BE FOUND. But the milisecond they think there might be a chance to come in here and do absolutely NOTHING but start shit with the regulars in this forum, they fly in here faster than a speeding bullet.
So glad that our collective patience has finally worn out. And Lord knows, we were patient as hell for a very, VERY long time. Major props to JAG.

see him say anything rude in his posts, but somehow he's FFRed while certain posters (they know who they are) get away with far harsher comments under the guise of being "true progressives". Long time posters are pretty much used to this by now, but it's just twisted what has been allowed to go on for so long here. Some of the changes that will be made tomorrow (edited: next week) are long overdue.
