http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/04/07/mi-men-arrested-for-viciously-beating-army-veteran-they-considered-a-ngger-lover/According to the Westland Police Department, United States Army veteran Adam Wagner went to a 7-11 convenience store at 2 a.m. Saturday morning to purchase a pack of cigarettes. Once inside, he noticed three men harassing the female clerk, and he told them to stop.
When he walked outside, the trio followed him. At this point, Wagner told police, they noticed the Army insignia on Wagners car and began to taunt him about the military.
They were saying, How can you be in the military when they let black people in the military? They used the n word, saying [he] was an n-word lover, Wagners girlfriend told WJBK.
I took pretty, pretty good offense to that because my best friend in the army was black. He saved my life, Wagner added.
The suspects all of whom had shaved heads then began to assault Wagner, punching and kicking him until he was on the ground.
Detroit Free Press Article -
The attackers fled on foot. The victim followed them while trying to call police, but the attackers beat him up once more, knocking him to the ground, punching and kicking him again, said police.
They beat the heck out of him, Jedrusik said. They beat him pretty bad.
They suspects may have been either intoxicated or just causing trouble, he said.
The victim got help from a resident who called the police. Paramedics took him to a hospital and he was released later. He suffered lacerations to his face and mouth, head injuries and a broken nose.
Just a couple of drunks out for a good time? Or racially motivated because he served in a military that allows black people to serve in it?
Maybe they felt threatened because they heard a rap song once? Maybe he bought skittles? Maybe because he laid down in the fetal position on cement/blacktop he was going to use the ground as a weapon?

(31,849 posts)we've got to do something about this white on white violent crime situation. It's getting out of control. Where are all the white leaders?

(73,631 posts)I've always been more concerned for my own safety whenever I've been in White dominated areas than Black areas.
In those areas, I would be designated as "out of place," and pretty much vulnerable.
Things have changed a lot over the years, but some things never really change.

(31,849 posts)many years ago, I worked as a Bartender/Bouncer in one of the 3 "Black" bars in town.
From time to time, a white guy would wonder into the bar. In the 4 years I worked there, I never saw them being given a hard time, except when they were acting like jerks (i.e., obviously crossing for "Black love" . Mostly, the white customers were ignored or eyed with suspicion as cops. And, it was not that unusual for the white guy to get a lot of attention from the female customers ... and, even then, there were no problems, so long as the guy did not get jerky.
And since I frequented, and knew folks that worked at, the other 2 "Black" bars, I can say my spot was not the exception.
At the same time, I knew of countless "non-Black" bars, where my mere presence, as a Black man, would have put me at risk ... and don't let me show up and start talking to any white women!
The funny thing is ... I have talked with other bartenders, both Black and white, and each has made similar observations.

(23,340 posts)when I was in college I worked part-time and summers as a cabdriver. White guy in a mostly black part of town, and if I worked weekend nights, I would walk into the black bars to pick up customers.
I was a lot more self-conscious back then than I am now. I never had a problem, really, though I have some good stories.
Cabdriving gives one lots of stories. Bartending probably does, too.

(32,008 posts)Trust me - the amount spent on wine in our household for one week is what some households budget for food in a month.
Look for any posts by me after 9:00 PM on a weekend night and my snark and 'wit' are up there for a reason.
