Some things are common knowledge. The sky is mostly blue if you dont live in Los Angeles. Water is wet if you can still find it in Texas. White people particularly those who espouse conservative beliefs dont want to be reminded of their White privilege.
I assumed most people who reach a certain arc of adulthood know to carry these truths with them, but in the case Regina V. Ross Roundtree (pictured), that last fun fact is a newly lesson learned following her abrupt firing from the Penny Bacchiochi (pictured above) for lieutenant governor campaign. Roundtree, a paid consultant, was let go of her duties once word got out that she wrote a Facebook post complaining about her employers opponent, Heather Bond Somers, making jabs about her and essentially exploiting the perks of White privilege.
The post now deleted featured Roundtree claiming:
Somers campaign manager, Jon Conradi, responded in a statement:
The Heather Somers campaign calls on Bacchiochi to immediately disavow herself of these divisive comments which have no place in the Republican Party or in public discourse.

(31,823 posts)Bacchiochi's husband?
Or the fired staffer?
What's interesting is that Bacchiochi has a pretty clear understanding of white privilege - if you dig out there - you will see that she and her husband have discussed this at length. She 'gets' it -
That said - I wonder if Bacchiochi would prefer to discuss her stepsons and husband having to walk and drive and shop black - as opposed to the words of an ignorant bigot she is running against?

(73,631 posts)Dealing with other GOPerz who only exist to uphold the system of white supremacy in this country. Staying silent and smiling to some racist comment from some desiccated fuck-face. Rationalizing the idea that poor and working class non-GOPer voting black people are all living on some "plantation," or are the scum of the Earth.
I can understand why a black person over the age of 70 is probably still a black Republican. Chances are they first joined up when it was something close to the "Party of Lincoln."
But these days, that party is dead and gone. It's the party of the Southern Strategy now, remade by Reagan on up.
Basically, the GOP is fucking nut job crazy, and in order for black GOPerz to fit in, they have to out-crazy the craziest white Republican racist assed motherfucker in the room in order not to get looked at side wise.
Mention white supremacy and privilege in that party, and their asses are toast.

(31,823 posts)That's what it comes down to. It's like something you can't speak of in 'polite company'. Thinking about just how difficult it can be/makes a segment of white liberals uncomfortable. . . They need it in 'polite language' on their terms.
Then times worse on the right. I'm throwing the IndieTeaPublicans and Libertarians all in one big simmering pot of ignorance here.
She mentioned it - she broke the rules - and now - she's fired.

(3,795 posts)Their place is BELOW white, heterosexual, Christian men.
If a black, gay, atheist, or woman supports that hierarchy then they are welcome in the GOP.
If they challenge that worldview then they will be shunned.
Great place to be for any of them...
