Looking for suggestions - my wife loves audio books. Is an Audible.com subscrip. a good gift idea?

She has an Android Nexus 7 and good speakers she can plug them into. She gets lots of audio books on CD from the library, but the selection is not great and quality even worse (scratched up, skipping).

Was thinking of getting her a 6 month subscription to see how she likes it....I know there are lots of free audiobook download sites, but selection seems a fraction of Audible.

thoughts???

The public library OverDrive app (for mp3 and e-reader books) is good, too. It's available for both computers and smart phones.

online magazine of all things audio bookish...
I used it to look up popular book narrators.

Yes, Audible is a huge resource.
There are also other online audio places, in case she wants to roam around.

Audible has brought serious reading, and fun reading, back into my life. My garden benefits, my cooking benefits, any kind of work that doesn't require conscious thought. By this time I have a large library of audio books and I often listen to them two or three times. Most of the readers are superb.

I've noticed that certain books I had trouble getting into in print are much more interesting and intelligible when listening. Infinite Jest is a good example, also Pynchon, or Roberto Bolano.

I'm sure she'll love it, whatever her taste in books.

I love mysteries and also have A People's History of the US....the cost is 14.99 month for one book which normally costs over 25.00 and when you have zero in your account they offer 3 for like 36.00 or 11.99 each..it is a great source..and I give them out as gifts at times...

Go for the one-year 24 book subscription. It's pricey, but the per book price comes to around $9.50, and if your wife doesn't use it, you can.

That said, the selection can be a little weird. There's a lot of self-published books on there, including weird fantasy series, lots of erotica, an unpalatable offering of RW nutjob books, lots of kid stuff, which to my mind isn't worth it, since the books take about three minutes to read/listen to, so you might as well buy them or get them from the library.

Also, irritatingly, stuff on non-US Audible sites has stuff that's not available on the US site, but you only discover that if yoiu check out the other Audible sites.

Bottom line. I've had annual subscriptions for several years now, and I manage to download abouit 20-25 a year - well, between me, my wife, and my kids. And having the account means you don't have to gasp at the per book purchase prices.

Go for it.

8. Audible.com - Lost Book Credits for Cancelling?

I have been seeing tons of complaints around the web about Audible’s practice of seizing book credits that its users have already paid for.

Has anyone lost Audible.com book credits after cancelling? Or lost credits for exceeding the monthly carry-over limit?

I am an attorney working on this issue and would love to speak with anyone who has experienced any loss of Audible.com credits. Our communications would remain confidential.

Feel free to contact me directly: smithlowney_classaction@igc.org

Thanks!

I've been a member for several years and can't even describe how much entertainment I've gotten from my subscription to Audible. I love it, love it, love it. I like that most of the books are unabridged, that they often have little sales and also that they will let you return a book if you don't like it.

I say go for it!!

I'm on the 2 books a month plan. I can listen to books on my Nano while I'm driving, cleaning, etc. I seem to absorb books better by listening. I just finished "The Goldfinch" which I loved but I would not have had the time to sit down and read a book that thick.
