(22,124 posts)industry itself is somewhat to blame too, w/ the way current comic book prices are now, almost $7 an issue for some of the newer issues. And the industry can't innovate fast enough or react fast enough? Perhaps there is something wrong with the industry then perhaps? Perhaps the industry is pushing out crap that doesn't have any sustainability what-so-ever?
Comics have made it through some of the toughest times in history in this Country so the excuses they are coming up with are lame and worn out.
Not everyone wants the gore, the flashy, highly artsy fartsy hunks and superheroes as they all have been overdone to the point of overkill, its' kind of like everybody wants to be a singer, everybody wants to be a dancer, everybody wants to be an artist, etc. Enough! How many artists, singers and / or writers do we really need? Certainly not a million of them, for this is what it seems like.

(62,530 posts)everyone thinks every issue is a "collectable". that is so wrong now. in the old days, there were limited runs, now; millions are printed. nothing is rare.
if they want to recapture readers, print the monthly runs on low quality paper, then making them cheaper to buy. this whole archival museum grade bullshit is nothing more that playing to the fan base. they aren't going to be worth more years from now because so many are printed.
then release limited additions of the same issues on higher quality paper.
the variants do this now, but the variants are astronomical in price.
this let's the readers read at a lower price and the collectors collect their "rare" issues.

(22,124 posts)editions, and like you said, millions are printed, and nothing is 'rare' anymore.
Happy collecting!
