do i write the words or do the words write me
in the strained rhymes in an ever uneven meter
to evoke images of birds circling a listless sea
the smiles hide crimes as gestures try to deter
unspeakable secrets inside who can ever know
my mask shows nothing but kindness and trust
all who observe will abide an unchanging show
seeing the real is crushing a crust from the rust
dimly dark dank desires crawl creeping deeply
a stunted sly child schemes whines and mewls
lighting small secret fires being exposed briefly
the golden tooth gleams needle sharp and cruel
alone delving in darkness seek sad satisfactions
contrasting in the starkness of outward reactions
