watching ‘john adams’
when washington is quietly sworn in
and adams struggles to contain himself
tears in his eyes
tears in my eyes, too
they faced an incredible struggle
like us
my first thought: scalia
scalia the traitor
thomas the traitor
ugly hands that reached up from muck
to strangle this nation
overturning the Will Of Us
defeating all that They stood for
and elevating an Impostor
who ravaged us
we bleed still
somehow we lived
somehow Dick could not succeed
no torture no spying no dark design
could prevent a Return
the improbable Return
to civil governance
to reason
antonin still sits on his bloody throne
writhing
clarence still obeys
his Master’s Voice
but no matter the vitriolic jester’s threat
no matter the floodgates of Mammon opened
no matter the sinister corporate invasion
and in the face of criminal election fraud
he will be elected again
and more will come of it and more still
