December 28, 1927 - Vito Giannola, Boss of the Sicilian Green Ones Gang, was killed in St. Louis
at the Bessie Avenue home of his mistress. Giannola drove Augustina Cusumano’s husband out of town and was said to have beat her repeatedly. Two men from the rival Russo Gang showed up at the home with Tommy guns and Giannola fled to a hiding spot in a crawl space. The gunman that followed fired 95 times, hitting Giannola 37 times. The Green Ones were finished. Giannola had paid $100,000 to arrange a truce in a war with the Cuckoo Gang that took 30 lives in two years.
