The internet has a very different style than printed books.

The book style you are using in your Terrapin post is unnecessarily difficult to read on a phone or computer screen.

Personally, I write everything in markdown and worry about the formatting later. I can use any old text processor for that

For the web (or in Markdown) hit ENTER twice at the end of each paragraph. No tabs, no spaces. And use only one space after periods and other punctuation.

This can be converted to traditional book styles or word processing formats later, using utilities such as pandoc and style sheets. Some word processors also have this capability.

As someone on the autistic spectrum, with side orders of OCD and PTSD, I tend to freeze up if I worry too much about things like formatting, spelling, or grammar. Any rough spots in those can be fixed later. First I have to get the thoughts out.

I've posted my own creative writing here on DU, some of it here in this Writing Group, but I rarely get enough critical comment to hammer my words into something better.

Andy Weir, author of The Martian wrote that book on his personal website as a blog, one chapter at a time, and got some critical comment there.

Other authors participate in formal face-to-face writers groups. I did a lot of that in college. Believe it or not, as fractured as my writing can be, I minored in English. My major was Biology. It took me nine years to graduate from college. I was told to take time off twice, largely because I tell people what I'm thinking.

You've got an interesting story. I've spent many hours on the road between California and Tulsa, and I've spent some time in Gallup. Last time I visited Gallup it was still a rough place.

If my wife and I didn't live in Mexican-American California and we didn't have so much family here, I think I'd enjoy living in Albuquerque.
