"The Announcement"

I just finished watching "The Announcement" Magic Johnson special on ESPN. It was Magic's story narrated by him. I remember when it became known that he was infected. I think it changed sports and the way AIDS was perceived by the public. It was popular belief that the most likely way to get AIDS was through gay sex or needles. Magic showed that it could happen to anyone. And it was a sad time. We all thought he would be gone within a few years. Magic was magic. He had this over the top positive personality. He was easy to like. I think the world was sad that this great athlete was going to be lost soon. The ESPN special included Larry Bird and Pat Riley talking about how depressed they were.

It's amazing that it's 20 years later and Magic is still here. Hopefully he stays around a lot longer to see this terrible disease cured.
