I don't even think the starters played much in the second half. The problem is that the reserves are way better than the starters on the other team. What should they have done? Forfeited the game? Thrown Nigeria the ball every time they got possession?

People didn't complain when the 1992 Dream Team pasted teams and people shouldn't complain now.

Slow down the tempo...it's very easy to do. Watch a game sometime before you post.

6. Interesting take

Aug 2012

One thing I noticed in the USA game against Tunisia a few days ago....at the end of the 2nd quarter Chris Paul tried to just dribble out the clock to get to halftime and the crowd in London was booing them because they wanted to see action and scoring. You'll notice that when team USA is blowing teams out, the crowd is still there wanting to see more.

Another interesting thing was the female badminton players who have been sanctioned because they weren't giving their all. It's interesting.

My take? This is the Olympics...officials and fans expect top notch play and 100% effort all the time. Team USA men's basketball does that and they shouldn't be faulted.

BTW, the USA womens b-ball team also destroys teams without mercy

running up the scores against lesser opponents several years ago.

He's also a big fan of Gino Auriemma and the UConn Huskies and enjoys seeing the Lady Huskies run up the score against the Big East Lightweight teams.

They weren't fastbreaking in the second half. Look at the stats. They couldn't miss. They shot >70% for 3. Nigeria played a flat 2/3 zone, so they US made a point of NOT attacking the basket and drawing fouls. They just settled for the outside shot, which is generally what experts say you shouldn't do. It's just that everything went in.

Kevin Love made a 3 with 4 seconds on the shot clock. They were just moving the ball around and when an inside move got cut off, the pass went out to him and he shot it without any hesitation. It went in.

What are they supposed to do? Miss on purpose?

With this team, anything less than a fifty point win is a disgrace.

The Olympics are the only time I ever watch basketball.

Or that it is unrealistic to expect 50 point wins against every opponent. Tunisia & Nigeria are probably the two worst Olympic qualified teams.

With teams like France, Russia, Spain, & maybe a couple others I'd expect anywhere between 15-30, probably closer to 30 but wouldn't consider anything less than 50 to be a "disgrace".
