Louisiana State Police investigating wiretapping allegations against the New Orleans Saints football team said Monday they found no evidence any state laws were broken.
The investigation began in April after ESPN, citing anonymous sources, reported that Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis had a device in his Superdome suite that was wired to allow him to hear members of the opposing coaching staff from 2002 to 2004.
"This has been an intensive investigation, and after numerous interviews we have determined that there is no evidence that state laws have been violated," said State Police Superintendent Col. Mike Edmonson.
He cautioned that he was not in a position to comment on the status of a federal investigation that is being conducted by the FBI.

(29,322 posts)of wiretapping. If wiretapping was legal, they wouldn't waste their time investigating & interviewing people.
The Saints were accused of wiring the Superdome to intercept communications and from other sources police claim after investigating and interviewing several people they didn't find any evidence.
I seriously doubt intercepting communications is legal in Louisiana, if it was, they wouldn't of wasted their time investigating.
Here
"We found no corroborating evidence that Mickey Loomis or anybody in the Saints was engaged in wiretapping or eavesdropping," Edmonson(State Police Col) said.

(49,533 posts)I don't know the difference between Louisiana and US law when it comes to wiretapping and eavesdropping.

(29,322 posts)Saints broke federal law but not state law? It isn't his job to determine if something violates federal law and indicated state law to say that this has nothing to do w/ federal investigation.
Saints wiretapped but it's legal? I pointed out that they interviewed several people and claimed to find no evidence the Saints wiretapped. Wouldn't he say, Saints wiretapped but it's legal so we won't bother going further?

(49,533 posts)And that I don't know if the laws are different. Do you?
since it isn't state police job to investigate and enforce federal laws.
I don't know exactly what the laws say but I'm willing to bet intercepting communications is illegal under both.
If that is all I'm not sure what it is I said that caused you to point this out, I mentioned the police claiming the found no evidence the Saints wiretapped(rather than simply 'state law') so I thought you were disputing something.
