Bob Nightengale, USA TODAY Sports
11:45PM EDT October 23. 2012 - SAN FRANCISCO -- The Detroit Tigers sat back in Motown this past week and watched the cute little story unfold in the National League.
They saw the San Francisco Giants pull off their Lazarus act time and time again, winning a record six consecutive elimination games, and become overnight media darlings.
They're starting to wonder if these guy dress in a clubhouse or a TV studio, where they can rehearse their zany skits and goofy pregame antics.
The Tigers are sorry to ruin the ending to this charming show, but the Giants' season is over.
Detroit will win the World Series in five games. .....................(more)

(6,664 posts)Most of the national media is slobbering over the Giants and bring Detroit into the end of the stories as an afterthought. Or don't even bother.
Even after Detroit swept the Yankees, all the stories were about the disfunction on the Yankees, not that the Tigers are a pretty awesome team which might be why they WON.
Same old story; if it's not East or West Coast, it's not glamorous. Sigh. Guess Detroit will have to do their talking on the field.

(9,709 posts)most of the stories still focus on the Yankees..
OTOH, I'm not sure what you're complaining about when it comes to the media and the Giants. They didn't exactly get preferential treatment over the Cardinals, who are another media darling, and the Tigers are favored in the WS. In fact, most of the "slobbering" has been over Verlander..

(56,177 posts)I don't see what they're basing this on other than the fact that Detroit swept Satan.
That said, I think it will be a good, close series, but I don't see either team really being a favorite...good luck to both.

(29,322 posts)that Yankee team wasn't very good based on recent form, a struggling Yankee lineup where they benched Arod and Cano.
That said, if I was a sports gambler, I would never touch baseball. Too random and too hard to predict.

(56,177 posts)And they had lots of holes at the end of the season...I was actually pretty confident Detroit would win the series, just didn't think they'd sweep.
I agree...also, 7 games so anything can happen.
