Not too surprising, though I hope this isn't supposed to be taken entirely seriously. I see how the map has broken the US into states...and some of it doesn't make much sense. They have California's #1 sport as basketball, while Indiana's is supposedly football...

(29,322 posts)The Phoenix Suns has easily the largest fan base of any team in the state but I would say the most popular sport is football. We have a lot of carpet bagger NFL fans in the state(a lot of Cowboys fans here), the college & high school football teams in this state get far better attendance than the basketball teams though UofA basketball probably gets better ratings, attendance than their football team but it's close.

All baseball, I'm sure.

(2,654 posts)If you do live in the Triangle (Raleigh/Durham, NC) and don't go to at least 1 ACC game, you're missing a lot. College hoops is far and away better than the NBA, college football and the NFL... sorry, but it's true. It's being ruined, however, by the endless conference realignments - most often due to football money - which are ripping some good rivalries apart.
The atmosphere at a Final Four weekend is on par - IMHO - with a FIFA World Cup. I've been privileged to attend both events at various times.

(9,709 posts)I've only been to about a handful of college games, but when I lived up closer to Seattle, we used to see the Sonics fairly regularly. I did go to Final Four media day in 1984, which basically consisted of teams like Georgetown and Kentucky going out on the court, running through drills, and shooting around.
Got a few good autographs. Among them, Jim Valvano, who was just sitting in the stands with his wife about 3 rows behind us....it was the year after his team made the great run to the title out of the western regional and we had become fans of him and NC State too.
Still, basketball is by far my least favorite sport. I do envy your attendance at a World Cup however..
