Melky Cabrera contradicts Bochy, explains why he didn’t address teammates

Toronto – The Giants came to a new country and forgot how to play baseball for an inning. Melky Cabrera got his World Series ring and remembered how to become a hitting machine. R.A. Dickey recalled how to strike people out with his knuckleball.

All of these events conspired to end the Giants’ three-game winning streak Tuesday night. The Blue Jays got six runs off Barry Zito in a hideously played first inning for San Francisco and won 10-6, a game made that close by Pablo Sandoval’s three-run homer in the ninth.

Cabrera got his World Series ring from manager Bruce Bochy during a brief meeting before the game then reached base all five times he batted, on an error, three singles and a double. He had his first four-hit game since his 51-hit May as a Giant last year and scored twice on two painful legs that will be checked in an MRI exam on Wednesday morning.

Adding insult to injury, Cabrera used one of his Giants bats to thwack his old team.

UPDATE: When asked why he wanted a private ceremony to get his World Series ring, he said manager Bruce Bochy wanted it that way. I believe that’s a whopper of a lie.

When we asked Bochy at the start of batting practice why he didn’t have the ring with him, he said a Blue Jays official approached Giants media relations man Matt Chisholm and said Cabrera wanted to do it privately. That’s understandable. He’s a private person. So why say that? Why put that on Bochy?

Cabrera’s quote: “It was Bochy’s decision, whatever he wanted to do. He wanted to do it before the game, which was fine. If he wanted to do it on the field, that’s fine with me too. But they decided to just do it here inside.”

Later, Cabrera was asked a big question in the minds of the Giants and their fans: Why didn’t he stick around and talk to his teammates after he was suspended on Aug. 15.

He said through a translator that “somebody” told him it would not be a good idea. When pressed to say who that somebody was, he didn’t elaborate.

Cabrera had 5 hits in 8 at bats, 2 of which were doubles. He scored 4 runs, drove in 2, and walked once.

Yeah, they should have left the bats in San Francisco.
