(31,168 posts)I'll never forget 1999, the year Ted Williams made an appearance. All the players were huddled around him. He asked Mark McGwire if he smelled smoke -- the resulting friction from bat hitting ball -- when he pelted a line drive. McGwire said he did. It was a great moment. Baseball transends time better than any other sport. That's why I love it, and why I hate to see changes like the DH, interleague play, and this absurd new wildcard.
