(16,113 posts)but it's been kind of standard operating procedure for at least 10 years. Teams in contention start the process around mid-August and a season ticket holder who buys the playoff package gets tickets for the division series, LCS and World series. The season ticket holders get first crack and they know by early September how many tickets they'll have available for the general public. I have Red Sox World Series tickets for 2003 and 2005. Thankfully, I actually got to use my tickets in 2004. If you don't use a playoff series (or the playoff tickets at all) they usually credit your account toward next year's season tickets.
I don't recall what the process was in the early 90's when the Pirates had those great teams.
I checked the Red Sox page to see if they were offering them yet. Given the epic collapse in 2011 and last years debacle, I'm not surprised they're holding off as long as possible. Even if they announce late, they won't have any issues selling out.
