College football playoff on the way?

from The Sporting News:

NEW ORLEANS—Ugly doesn’t begin to describe it. But it most certainly defined it—in such a profound way that even the men who run this crazy, controversial contraption we call the Bowl Championship Series are giving in.

Years from now, this BCS National Championship Game won’t be remembered so much for Alabama’s utter domination of LSU as it will the beginning of radical change in college football. A national playoff is coming, everyone.

It’s only a matter of what it looks like.

“It gets done,” a high-ranking BCS official told Sporting News Monday evening. ..............(more)

it's going to change...it won't for a while...too much money, even with this year's most undeserving "champion" ever.

The 2004 Auburn Tigers football team represented Auburn University in the 2004 NCAA Division I-A football season. Auburn compiled a record of 13–0, winning the Southeastern Conference championship and finishing the season ranked #2 in both the AP Poll and the Coaches' Poll. Beginning the season ranked #17 in the AP poll and #18 in the Coaches' Poll, the Tigers were denied a berth in the BCS National Championship Game because they finished the regular season ranked #3 in the BCS rankings. Head coach Tommy Tuberville, who was nearly fired after the 2003 season, was named national Coach of the Year by the Associated Press.

Alabama IS the National Champion and won it on the field. No one would have beaten them that day. A great team, great season, and the GREATEST conference.

AUBURN IN THE SEC TITLE GAME???????

The 2004 SEC Championship game marks the third time in school history that Auburn will appear in the league championship game. The Tigers previously made trips to the title game in 1997 and 2000, falling to Tennessee, 30-29, in 1997 and dropping a 20-6 decision to Florida in 2000.

Tigers undefeated, likely out of title game
ATLANTA (AP) -- Take that, pollsters and computers. The team most likely to be left out of the national championship game has a trophy of its own.

For Auburn, that will probably have to do.

Jason Campbell threw for three touchdowns and accounted for more than 400 yards, leading the No. 3 Tigers to a 38-28 victory over 15th-ranked Tennessee in the SEC championship game Saturday night.

It will look like the national championship game and the rest of the bowls looked this season. It might even be called a playoff but it won't be.
