(4,069 posts)The 2004 Auburn Tigers football team represented Auburn University in the 2004 NCAA Division I-A football season. Auburn compiled a record of 130, winning the Southeastern Conference championship and finishing the season ranked #2 in both the AP Poll and the Coaches' Poll. Beginning the season ranked #17 in the AP poll and #18 in the Coaches' Poll, the Tigers were denied a berth in the BCS National Championship Game because they finished the regular season ranked #3 in the BCS rankings. Head coach Tommy Tuberville, who was nearly fired after the 2003 season, was named national Coach of the Year by the Associated Press.
Alabama IS the National Champion and won it on the field. No one would have beaten them that day. A great team, great season, and the GREATEST conference.

(4,069 posts)AUBURN IN THE SEC TITLE GAME???????
The 2004 SEC Championship game marks the third time in school history that Auburn will appear in the league championship game. The Tigers previously made trips to the title game in 1997 and 2000, falling to Tennessee, 30-29, in 1997 and dropping a 20-6 decision to Florida in 2000.
Tigers undefeated, likely out of title game
ATLANTA (AP) -- Take that, pollsters and computers. The team most likely to be left out of the national championship game has a trophy of its own.
For Auburn, that will probably have to do.
Jason Campbell threw for three touchdowns and accounted for more than 400 yards, leading the No. 3 Tigers to a 38-28 victory over 15th-ranked Tennessee in the SEC championship game Saturday night.
