Like the NFL Network is saying? This is Round 15. I don't like the boxing analogy.
The only other ones that come to mind are Staubach-Bradshaw and Unitas-Tittle.
Who was Montana's rival?

(31,169 posts)that few regular season opponents could compete with Montana. Marino and Elway could have been contenders but the teams seldom played being in other conferences.
If I recall correctly, the debate over "who was better" was usually between Marino and Montana. But I wouldn't call that a rivalry.

(7,044 posts)... it sounds like Brady has had the flu for a couple of weeks, and that it hit him pretty hard this past week...I guess we'll find out soon enough what shape he's in...
FOXBOROUGH Four days before the AFC Championship Game, they all but declared a state of emergency in Massachusetts: Tom Brady did not practice.
Of course, New England has no chance to beat Peyton Manning and the Broncos on Sunday if Bill Belichick has to go without Brady. As soon as Brady was not spotted on the practice field Wednesday morning and his scheduled news conference was pushed back until Friday, the buzz started in New England.
Whats wrong with Brady?
He had been sick last week leading up to the divisional round game against the Colts, and as it turns out, he missed practice Wednesday because he was sick again.

(65,013 posts)Even Unitas and Tittle likely didn't face each other more than 15 times, especially since Tittle spent some time in the othe conference.
Montana/Marino? That's the only one i could come up with, but in different conferences they did not face each other a lot. Maybe Montana/Elway who faced off in the big game.
Seems like the Brady/Manning thing is based on the fact that they played for mostly powerful teams in the same conference so they were always headed toward a playoff showdown.
Even Bradshaw and Staubach could only face off in the Super Bowl. So, if one team didn't make it that far, there was no face off. But, these two guys actually had opportunities to face off in the playoffs to get to the Conference finals or the Superbowl. So, they could face off time and time again.
And, let's face it; they've both been great for a long time. That's bound to turn this into a major rivalry.

(2,971 posts)times in the playoffs, but I don't think anyone looked at those games as Montana vs. Simms. I think Simms even missed due to injury the memorable championship game that the Giants won on a late FG
