Rutgers QB arrested for assault; victim in critical condition

Rutgers quarterback Philip Nelson, a recent transfer from the University of Minnesota, was arrested for allegedly assaulting another football player in Mankato, Minn. early Sunday morning, according to multiple reports.

Nelson was arrested on suspicion of assaulting Isaac Kolstad, a 24-year-old linebacker for the Minnesota State-Mankato Mavericks. Kolstad is listed in critical condition at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato. A father of a 3-year-old daughter, Kolstad's wife is expecting the family's second child, former teammate Sam Thompson told The Associated Press.

Rutgers spokesman Jason Baum maintained that the university was looking into the allegations.

2. This update indicates Kolstad is in really bad shape

with permanent brain damage suspected - if he makes it through multiple surgeries the next couple of days. He has a 3-yr old child and wife is pregnant with #2.

Nelson is 20 and also charged with underage consumption of alcohol as well as assault.
