Josh Gordon will miss the entire 2014 season following the NFL's announcement Wednesday that it has upheld the Cleveland Browns receiver's yearlong suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.
Gordon's suspension is effective immediately, and he will have to apply for reinstatement following the season.
Gordon, who led the NFL in receiving yards last season, issued an apology in a statement released by the NFL Players' Association.
"I'd like to apologize to my teammates, coaches, the Cleveland Browns organization and our fans," Gordon said in the statement. "I am very disappointed that the NFL and its hearing office didn't exercise better discretion and judgment in my case. I would like to sincerely thank the people who have been incredibly supportive of me during this challenging time, including my family, my agent, my union, my legal team, and the Cleveland Browns staff."

Won't anybody think about the children?

(65,013 posts)And i don't want to hear "it was in the CBA". Once the LEAGUE gave a domestic abuse case 2 games, they could have voluntarily reduced the Gordon sentence.
Anybody really think the union would have disagreed to a reduction of the penalty?
Reducing the punishment is something Goodell could have done with a stroke of the pen.
I don't care if it was a second offense. It's a dumb punishment. If it's a PED that gives an unfair advantage and might hurt others, we're having a different conversation. But, pot?
Dumb ban. Dumb penalty. Dumb decision to not reduce it, especially in light of a wife beater getting 1/8th of the penalty.

I'm not saying I agree with the rule, but after Gordon's first offense, it's not like he was unaware of what the danger is. I think what Rice did is far more harmful to the league's image than what Gordon did.
