USC's Josh Shaw admits to lying

USC senior cornerback Josh Shaw has admitted to lying about how he suffered his ankle injuries last weekend and has been suspended indefinitely, the school said in a statement Wednesday.

Shaw said he suffered a pair of high ankle sprains Saturday night after jumping from the second story of an apartment complex to save his 7-year-old nephew, who was struggling in the pool. Shaw said his nephew did not know how to swim.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian said Tuesday the school received several calls questioning the authenticity of Shaw's story and had been investigating the matter.

"We are extremely disappointed in Josh," Sarkisian said in the statement. "He let us all down. As I have said, nothing in his background led us to doubt him when he told us of his injuries, nor did anything after our initial vetting of his story.

How sad. However, the story did not seem realistic, or reasonable. My first thought after hearing the story was why would anyone jump from a second story balcony to attempt to save a drowning person. Would it not have been more reasonable to just run down the stairs, or just call for help from the balcony? I do not see how the coaching staff and the people at USC's newspaper did not question the story before it was made public.

but thought the public and media might...then again, if it was obvious to them, someone should have said to hold it back...unless Josh went to the media himself...not sure of the events chain.

My parents left my teen-aged brother and sister at home with some friends. When we got home, they found the number of girls and boys they were expecting. They also found a pair of shoes. Size 13 shoes. It didn't take them long to figure out which boy (who my parents' friends didn't like) had jumped out of a window when he saw them coming.

Hopefully, this story ends similarly. I am cynical enough to doubt that, though.

as a last-minute replacement for someone who had broken both his legs jumping out of a hotel window -- wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more!

So of course, I find this:

New York Daily News: ...A report posted Tuesday afternoon at TMZsports.com alleged Shaw had been named in a Los Angeles burglary report, although not as a suspect...

TMZ reported that police investigated claims that a suspicious person had been seen “shimmying” down a building near USC’s campus Saturday night, that a woman had identified the man as her boyfriend, Josh Shaw, and that Shaw had denied to the police that he had been at the building.

If the woman was Josh's girlfriend, why couldn't he leave by the front door? Had he broken curfew, or are the players not allowed to have sex during the season?

I went to Notre Dame, same sex dorms, women out by a certain time, so there would be no reason for him to have to leave quickly jut visiting a female friend.

On edit...apparently his sister corroborated the lies...great family.
