Chess (November 23): Magnus retains World Title

Reigning world chess champion Magnus Carlsen defeated former champion Vishy Anand today in the eleventh game of the match for the world title held in Sochi.

Magnus's victory ends the match and allows him to retain the world championship. The final score of the match is 6½-4½, with Magnus winning three games and Anand one.

The game lasted 45 moves. The opening was a Berlin Defense against a Spanish Game.

Magnus won the world title a year ago when he defeated Anand in a match held in Chennai, India, Anand's birthplace.

Look what I found on the sports page of the UK Guardian . . .

I used to have this argument with cboy4.

Just because American newspapers represent chess as something else and publish the chess column between the crossword puzzle and the book reviews doesn't mean it isn't a sport. The rest of the world knows better.
