but I think the David Tyree Super Bowl catch was better because of the stage it happened on (and it beat the Patriots and as somebody who hates cheaters, that does get bonus points).

But it's not like you can go wrong with this catch.

The defender originally pinned to ball to the helmet and Tyree kept it there. If the defender tips the ball a half-inch farther back, Tyree doesn't get his hand on it.

This catch was all effort and skill.

Had it decided the game it would weigh heavier as greatest ever. It still may be, but I like to consider the impact a play makes in the outcome.

"The Catch" wasn't that spectacular a catch. Not like Beckham's. But it a won playoff game, instantly elevated Joe Montana to elite status, and stood as the iconic image for the football team of the decade.

Maybe this becomes the iconic play in a fine career.

Just an amazing catch. Taken on it's own, with no game significance attached, maybe. The guy is playing at another level, as they say. Check out this Grantland piece that ran this morning, with the video of him in pregame practice. http://grantland.com/the-triangle/odell-beckham-and-the-catch-of-the-year-of-the-century/

Sprinting to make a catch where the ball flies from behind to over-the-front of your head are tougher catches than any 1 handed where you're facing the ball but they don't look as impressive to the eye test.
