Colin Kaepernick is not going to get all of his $126 million contract. After leading the San Francisco 49ers to consecutive NFC championship games and one Super Bowl, Colin Kaepernick was rewarded with a "record" seven-year, $126 million contract.
But after Kaepernick's nightmare season we are already seeing that the contract is not nearly as big as everybody made it out to be, and he could receive as little as $25.9 million.
The contract, signed last summer, gave Kaepernick a $12.3 million signing bonus and a 2014 salary of just $645,000.
Kaepernick was supposed to get his first large salary ($12.4 million) in the 2015 season. But because of the way the contract was worded, that salary is actually going to go down to $10.4 million.

(9,350 posts)Colin Kaepernick's contract was never really worth $126 Million because NFL contracts are not guaranteed. An NFL team can cut a guy at anytime and not have to pay any non guaranteed money. However, maybe guys like Kaepernick need better agents. They may also need to stop signing these incentive heavy contracts. I guess when he signed the contract it seemed reasonable because he probably did not see himself and his team missing the playoffs, but now, although he will make a large amount of money next year, it does not look as good. He is going to lose $2 million just because his team did not make the playoffs this year.

(31,169 posts)Perhaps it wasn't the wisest thing considering the spate of injuries that beset the team, Jim Harbaugh's downfall, or his own nightmarish performance. But how many times do you hear of an athlete who takes less money so the team has a better roster?
The person that wrote this on Yahoo is a douchebag for taking a cheap shot at Kaepernick and not reporting the full story.

(9,527 posts)But mostly because he's not a very good quarterback. He will still make plenty of money, but he will probably not sign another high dollar contract (by NFL standards) once San Francisco cuts him.
Maybe the next coach comes in and sets up the offense to work around his limitations, but I suspect that will be hard to do.
