The thing I'll remember most about the 49ers loss is.....

on two different occaisions, two DB's colliding on 2 passes that were sure picks. Add those to the 2 muffed punts and it explains the fact that it just wasn't meant to be for them.

Actually, I can't remember the last time I saw 2 db's collide in one game.

My take on yesterday's game:

First of all, let me say the Giants played great. Eli Manning played great. They earned the victory and were the better team. But I think the 49ers could have squeaked out a win had ...

they not abandoned the running game late in the fourth quarter. Earlier, in the fourth quarter, the 49ers were running around the outside and on misdirection plays against a tiring Giants defense effectively. When they got the ball back around the 4:00 minute mark they went to the air. Huh? Doesn't it make sense to grind it out on the ground and run out the clock?

49ers do not run up the middle with consistency -- not when good defenses stuff the box. Not with Gore and Kendall Hunter. Why they try this drives me crazy. And I think Gore and Hunter and the fullback Bruce Miller should have figured more in the passing game given the depleted receiver corps. Speaking of which ...

Braylon Edwards was released for whatever reason (ego?) a few months ago. I can't believe that couldn't be worked out. I think had he been given a chance to get healthy he could have been the game changer WRs Williams or Crabtree weren't. Heck, WR Ginn might not have been injured weeks earlier and would have played special teams instead of Kyle Williams. This move should haunt Jim Harbaugh, just like ...

losing WR Josh Morgan (broken leg, season) in garbage time against Tampa Bay in Week 5. Morgan should have been on the sideline. Totally preventable, Jim. Lack of quality wide receivers likely killed you, though ...

you still field a quarterback without the intensity -- maybe call it "will to win" -- of a Manning or Brady or Roethlisberger. Cut the cord already. We're tired of Alex Smith.
