The NFL is not currently investigating the apparent scoreboard discrepancy at Gillette Stadium that caused confusion on the Ravens' sideline in the final seconds of their 23-20 loss to the Patriots in the AFC championship game.
A source close to the situation said Tuesday night that the league has not received a complaint from the Ravens, and that its on-site football operations crew did not notice anything that would warrant follow-up.
Ravens kicker Billy Cundiff appeared to rush onto the field before missing a 32-yarder that would have tied the game. He would later confide to Stefan Fatsis, writing for Slate and Deadspin, that his pre-kick routine -- which is based on what down it is -- was mangled because the scoreboard was a down behind the actual play on the field.

(53,475 posts)What? Does he practice left-footed for 3rd down kicks only?

(68,918 posts)There is no such thing as losing gracefully anymore. Well, Jacoby Jones did a good job I guess, but Jim H just added to his legacy of being an ass on Monday as well.

(9,709 posts)and I understand you don't like Jim..but that's your problem. Try getting over it...
You know, just as when when you erroneously claimed Stanford coach David Shaw treated Jordan Williamson like shit, it really would be in your best interest to stick to stuff you actually know something about..
ScreamingMeemie
(68,918 posts)He's an ass. Wasn't talking about the Ravens specifically as Jacoby also does not play for them. Sorry I can't stand your coach but that appears to be your problem and not mine. Stanford Coach David Shaw did indeed treat Jordan like shit. His behavior directly after that kick towards the kid was horrid. At least he had his team mates. How about we all stick to what we want to talk about whether you like it or not? Try and have a nice day.
And, on edit, what I was referencing when I was speaking about JIM. Not JOHN:

But, he apparently likes it. So you shouldn't be bothered that I call him an ass.

(9,709 posts)while I listened to the Stanford post game show, which included an interview with Shaw about Williamson, you're basing your opinion on Shaw's facial expression....no offense, but that's pathetic.
Btw, the fact that you don't like Jim couldn't please me more..from what I've seen, I wouldn't want you on my side.
Edit: before forming an opinion on Harbaugh's remarks, tough I know when you already have your mind made up, next time try checking out another point of view:

(68,918 posts)not the "facial expression".
Not looking to be "on your side". With the exception of a few friends who are 49ers fans, I was thrilled when they bit it. It made the season less of a waste.

(9,709 posts)Great email she sent..thanking the Stanford family. Here's a brief excerpt:
'The main thing I wanted to communicate to you all is that, while our family has learned many powerful life lessons over the last few days, one key message that has come clear like no other is 'WE ARE IN A SPECIAL PLACE.' Never in my life have I seen the kindness, maturity, and love that has been displayed by this Stanford family, and in particular your AMAZING boys. As you can imagine, Jordan felt he wanted to dig a hole and hide, and watching the players seek him out to give bear hugs and encouragement, despite their own disappointment, has touched us and warmed our hearts beyond believe (sic). So many times he has shaken his head and said to me, 'People are just so nice. I just can't believe it.'

Oh, and we wouldn't want to leave this out either:
In the locker room after the game, Stanford coach David Shaw defended Williamson, said the experience would strengthen him and predicted that someday he would kick in the NFL. The day after the game, he called Williamson to check on him.
Again, stick to stuff you actually know..

(68,918 posts)Pity it doesn't read "on the sideline after the miss". Again, I'll talk about what I wish to. As you are welcome to. I'm going to go with the team mates being awesome and the coach being sucktastic in his treatment of that situation. But he's nowhere near the ass that is your buddy Jim.

(9,709 posts)he's paid well to make chip shots like that...there really is no excuse. Though I don't understand why Harbaugh didn't use his last TO to set everything up right..
Goblinmonger
(22,340 posts)what he does is all about repetition. His was thrown off. Even he isn't using that as an excuse from what I have read, but I at least understand why it was so horribly off if he wasn't in his routine.
If what Cundiff says is correct (and I have no reason to doubt him) a lot of the blame lies with Harbaugh for not calling the time out. Even if Harbaugh didn't know that the routine was thrown off, he had to see that Cundiff was rushing out there and needed more time to settle in.

(41,692 posts)His field goal team was running on the field to hurriedly kick the field goal... manning ran up to the line wanting to spike the ball and kill the clock---but had to wait for the field goal team to get off the field...He spiked it and killed the clock.
That was good thinking.
Surprised as well that JH didn't call a timeout.
Yavin4
(35,438 posts)why didn't he go into his routine immediately when the Ravens moved into FG range on that Bouldon catch and run?!?!?!

(22,340 posts)He has a different thing he does on 1st down, 2nd down, 3rd down leading up to the field goal. The scoreboard said it was first down so he did his 1st down routing when it was actually 2nd down. Hence him being rushed (On 3rd down he moves closer to the sideline so he is ready to go out).

(56,177 posts)I guess his eyes were on the scoreboard the entire time and was unable to count the downs himself by watching the freaking game.

(6,278 posts)But seriously, this makes a certain kind of sense. The FG kicker's job is all about consistently doing one thing well, and I'd imagine most of them would be more effective not paying attention to the ebb and flow of the game and focusing on achieving a certain mental state, warming up when appropriate and practicing the mechanics of the kick.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)no one clued him in...they were driving in the final seconds to win the game...seems more like he's making excuses...the one who should be making excuses is the coach for not calling a time out...they had one and they wouldn't have been so rushed.
