The facemask penalty was wrong... should have been a horse-collar tackle.

(5,927 posts)I'm livid. The Lions can't get fair officiating EVER. And the moron talking heads saying it was a good call??
FUCK THESE ASSHOLES.

(5,927 posts)I tell you something has got to be done about these officials.
The Lions shouldn't have to beat the other team and the zebras at the same time. I am SICK OF THIS SHIT

(5,927 posts)The NFL should get off its ass and change the rule. Shit that changes a game should incur a review. They do it for touchdowns. Why don't they do if for a call like that? What possible rationale could they have for NOT changing it?

(22,340 posts)The Lions guy has the right to the ball, too. He was turned making a play on the ball and Jared double arm hugged him before the ball got there. That could have been an interception.

(22,340 posts)You need to be on the back of the pads for that. It's a penalty because of what it does to the knees.
There were at least 3 blatant holds on that last play.
It never ceases to amaze me how many breaks go the Packers way. The play that took Bridgewater out of the game had the Packers 96 with his hand on and inside Teddy's helmet with no call. But you even look Aaron wrong and it's a flag.

(34,825 posts)you look at a single frame. nonsense. Look at the replay.

(34,825 posts)Was the call controversial? Arguably. Was that the worst defense played in that situation? Absolutely.

(5,927 posts)It might behoove you to read the rule on facemask.
It happened fast, so it's natural that the ref THOUGHT it was a facemask. That is why it should be reviewable.

(34,825 posts)Still no excuse for the terrible "defense" on the ensuing play. Why did Detroit have defenders protecting the sidelines on a no-time play? Why were all the defenders camped behind the receivers in the end zone? Why wasn't Calvin Murphy put in the secondary to make a play for the jump ball?

(5,927 posts)His name is Calvin JOHNSON by the way.
If you're referring to the defense on the ENSUING play, then we have no disagreement. Your previous message did not clarify that, it appeared like you were talking about Lawson's grab of Aaron's collar.
The point is that the ensuing play shouldn't have even happened. A play that decides the outcome of a game should be reviewable. this is the 3rd time the Lions have had a bad call take a victory from them in the last 2 years. And judging by some of the other posters, the Lions aren't the only team to suffer from this.
Thank you for recognizing that I'm right about the bad call. It's understandable that the ref made the call; everything happened very quickly. In a league with fair rulings, it would have been reversed. The NFL is corrupt.

(20,365 posts)The Lions got hosed. But then they absolutely blew it on the next play.
navarth
(5,927 posts)They shouldn't even have had to deal with the next play! Yes they blew it. But nothing changes the fact that they won the game and had it taken from them. And it's not the first time.

(24,853 posts)You're a few yards (or further) away and behind or to the side of Rogers. A hand goes to the general area of the facemask, and Rogers' helmet is visibly turned at that instant.
